Learning threshold stacks

L3 Short stacks / Push or fold

What the coach says
Coachwaiting

The single most transferable piece of push/fold knowledge is the stack depth where the answer changes.

Learn it once and it applies to every similar spot.

The explanation shows that threshold every time. Take that away if nothing else.

Terms this lesson uses
  • push/fold

Play so shallow that the only sensible choices are all-in or fold. A middling raise would commit you anyway.

  • equilibrium

A state where neither player gains by changing strategy on their own. It is used as a baseline that cannot be exploited.

  • ante

A forced payment from everyone each hand, on top of the blinds. Most tournaments have the big blind post it for the table. It makes the pot worth fighting for from the start.
