Choosing a c-bet size

Ahead across your whole range: bet small. Holding the very strongest hands too: bet large.

Bet large without the nut advantage and only the hands that beat you stay in.

The verdict here comes from a simplified model, not from a solver.

• c-bet

  A bet on the flop by the player who raised before it. It continues the story their preflop raise told.

• SPR

  Stack-to-pot ratio: how many pots you still have behind. Low SPR means the hand resolves quickly; high SPR leaves room to manoeuvre.

• range advantage

  Whose set of possible hands does better on this board, averaged across all of them.

• MDF

  Minimum defence frequency: how often you must continue against a bet so that betting any two cards would not automatically profit.

20 hands or more, with an optimal rate of 50% and average EV loss no worse than 0.25BB
