Sharpening reads with blockers

L6 Advanced / Push or fold

What the coach says
Coachwaiting

Holding a single ace cuts their AA combinations from six down to three.

The closer the decision, the more this matters.

When a blocker line appears in the explanation, read the spot again with it in mind.

Terms this lesson uses
  • blocker

A card in your hand that your opponent therefore cannot hold, which removes some of their strongest combinations.

  • range

All the hands a player could hold in this spot, not just one guess. Decisions are made against the whole set.

  • mixed strategy

Playing the same hand differently some of the time, so an opponent cannot read your holding from your action.
