Drawing their range

L6 Advanced / Hand reading

What the coach says
Coachwaiting

So far this has been about what you should hold. Now it is about what they hold.

Every action narrows their range. The goal is to be able to draw it on the 13×13 grid.

An exact match is not required. The shape is enough.

Terms this lesson uses
  • range

All the hands a player could hold in this spot, not just one guess. Decisions are made against the whole set.

  • blocker

A card in your hand that your opponent therefore cannot hold, which removes some of their strongest combinations.

  • mixed strategy

Playing the same hand differently some of the time, so an opponent cannot read your holding from your action.
